Sin offering

Hebrew chatat — the offering prescribed specifically to deal with sin (Leviticus 4), distinct from the Passover. The Passover lamb is never called a sin offering; reading sin into Passover folds a later, separate offering back onto it, where Scripture keeps the two carefully apart.
