Hypocrite
From the Greek hypokritēs — a stage actor performing behind a mask; its parts (hypo, under + krinō, judge) also suggest one who judges from a concealed position, motives hidden even from himself. In Jesus’ mouth (Matthew 23:27-28) both seem at work: religion performed for an audience, and a self that judges others while never coming under the same view.
